What are the standards for nondestructive inspection of welds

In Hebei Huayang Steel Pipe Company, we strictly follow a series of nondestructive testing standards for welds to ensure that the product quality reaches the highest level. The following are the main standards we rely on in actual operation:

Ultrasonic testing standard

GB/T 11345-2023 Ultrasonic Testing Technology, Testing Grade and Evaluation of Weld Nondestructive Testing: This is an important basis for our ultrasonic testing. It specifies the manual ultrasonic inspection technology for the fusion welded joints of metal materials with low ultrasonic attenuation, the thickness of the base material is not less than 8 mm, and the temperature of the weld and its base material is 0-60℃ during inspection. It is especially suitable for full penetration weld where the base material and weld are ferritic steel. Based on the longitudinal wave sound velocity of steel being (5920 50) m/s and the transverse wave sound velocity being (3255 30) m/s, the relevant detection requirements are set. In the process of testing, we strictly follow the standard requirements to ensure the accurate evaluation of the internal quality of the weld.

X-ray detection standard

GB/T 3323-2005 Radiography of Metal Fusion Welded Joints: According to this standard, X-ray or γ-ray is used to radiograph the fusion welded joints of steel pipes. The standard covers radiographic equipment, materials, technology, film evaluation and other aspects, and is suitable for X-ray inspection of butt welding of carbon steel, low alloy steel, stainless steel, aluminum and aluminum alloy, titanium and titanium alloy materials and butt welding of steel pipes with a thickness of 2-50 mm.. Our inspectors operate in strict accordance with the standard process, from the parameter setting of the X-ray equipment to the analysis and evaluation of the base film, every link is ensured to meet the standard requirements, so as to accurately detect the possible defects in the weld.

Magnetic particle testing standard

JB/T 6061-2007 "Nondestructive Testing of Welds by Magnetic Particle Testing": We follow this standard when testing the surface and near-surface defects of ferromagnetic materials. It specifies in detail the methods, procedures, equipment, materials, testing technology, evaluation of testing results and quality grading of weld magnetic particle testing. Our inspectors will select appropriate magnetic particle testing equipment and materials according to the requirements of the standard, carefully test the weld surface, judge whether there are defects by observing the magnetic marks, and evaluate the results and grade the quality according to the standard.

Penetration detection standard

JB/T 6062-2007 "Non-destructive Testing of Weld Penetration Testing": We strictly implement this standard for detecting weld surface opening defects of non-porous materials. It stipulates the basic rules for detecting surface opening defects in metal welds by penetrant detection method and the acceptance level of penetrant detection display. During inspection, we will ensure that the weld surface is clean, apply penetrant and imaging agent according to the standard requirements, carefully observe the displayed traces, so as to accurately judge whether there are defects on the weld surface, and carry out quality control according to the acceptance level.
