API PSL1 is the Product Specification Level 1 in API 5L standard formulated by api gravity (API), and PSL is the abbreviation of product specification level. It is the basic quality grade of seamless and welded steel pipes used to transport fluids such as oil, gas and water in the oil and gas industry.
API PSL1 specifies the basic requirements for chemical composition, mechanical properties and testing of steel pipes. Its chemical composition control is relatively loose, such as the maximum carbon content of seamless steel pipe is 0.28%, and the contents of elements such as manganese, phosphorus and sulfur are also limited accordingly. Mechanical properties only specify the minimum values of yield strength and tensile strength, and do not limit the maximum values and yield ratio. For example, the minimum values of yield strength and tensile strength of steel grade B are 241MPa and 414MPa, respectively.
The test requirements of PSL1 are relatively simple. The basic tests include tensile test, chemical composition analysis and size inspection, and impact test and nondestructive testing are not mandatory. This grade steel pipe is suitable for conventional working conditions, such as low-risk pipelines on land and conventional oil and gas transportation, and is usually more economical and efficient than PSL2 grade steel pipe.
