What is a Threadolet?
A threadolet shares the same fundamental structure as a "weldolet." The fitting has a female threaded connection to meet with the branch connector, which is the primary difference. Available in full size or reduced for a straight piece of pipe, this creates a 90° branch. It is often welded over a hole that has been either burned or drilled in the pipe and ranges in size from 1/2" to 2".
When you wish to weld a steel pipe or pipe fitting to the branch fitting directly, you use a "weldolet," and when you want to screw the connecting pipe or fitting (such as a valve) to the branch connection, you use a "threadolet."
I think there is an ANSI standard for these types of pressure ratings and specifications.
The effect of the heating and cooling of the weld might cause the header to bow or warp, depending on the relative size of the olet and the main pipe run. Never use an olet that is more than half the size of the main pipe run is a solid rule of thumb. The nominal size is size in this context.
What's the difference between weldolet and Sockolet?
