Why is the straight seam structure an inherent advantage of stress resistance?

The most striking feature of LSAW pipe is the longitudinal distribution of welds, which gives it an inherent advantage in mechanical performance. Compared with spiral welded pipe, straight seam weld avoids the stress concentration problem caused by spiral. When the pipeline is subjected to internal pressure, external load or temperature change, the stress can be evenly distributed along the longitudinal direction of the pipeline, which greatly reduces the risk of weld cracking.

In the Third West-to-East Gas Pipeline Project, the LSAW pipeline crossing the desert Gobi has to bear the temperature difference of 40℃ day and night, and its straight seam structure makes the deformation stress of the pipeline disperse evenly when it expands when it expands and contracts when it contracts, and there is no weld leakage caused by stress concentration. The data show that the longitudinal tensile strength of LSAW pipe is 15%~20% higher than that of spiral welded pipe under the same pipe diameter and pressure grade, making it the first choice in extreme stress environment.
